This weekend marks the 10th edition of Papier, a local art fair highlighting contemporary works on paper. Station 16 Gallery will be presenting artwork by Alan Ganev, Jef Aérosol, Laurence Vallières, Mr. Brainwash, Stikki Peaches, and Whatisadam all of whom have incorporated paper into their practice in varying manners, from wheat-pastes, collage, silkscreen printing, and sculptures made entirely out of cardboard.

We are beyond thrilled to introduce Lucy Sparrow, an incredibly imaginative artist working out of the UK. If you have not yet had the pleasure of experiencing her work, brace yourselves – what an experience it is!

There is an inherent shock value when viewing the work of Enzo Sarto. Executed in a clean and crisp manner, Sarto’s photographs highlight a deceptive innocence that demands attention. Although stating that his work “is about passions, prejudices, and fear,” a specific clarification, such as why a little girl wears a bandana around her face like a vandal and holds a gun as if she just committed murder, remains elusive. Politically and socially charged images infiltrate much of Sarto’s work, producing a dialogue that begs for an explanation. 

For most, the upcoming weekend will be filled with roses and candy hearts, but at Station 16, we are taking a more macabre approach to the weekend. Launching on Friday the 13th is the XRAY Spirit Board, a ouija-inspired artistic creation. To celebrate the product launch, Station 16 is hosting a seance at the gallery, where guests will be able to enjoy a drink, meet the artist, and summon the spirits.

When exploring some of Montreal's best bars and restaurants, you have probably come across the work of interior designer, Amlyne Phillips, founder of La Chambre Design.  Her classic style, found in Apt200, Suwu, L'Gros Luxe, the newly opened Jatoba as well as others, is a fusion of charming antiques with modern trends that creates an ambiance that is as cozy as it is hip. Not to mention, she often incorporate the work of Station 16 Gallery, contributing an eclectic edge into her designs.

Montreal street artist, Whatisadam, recently introduced his work to the European street art scene. With paste-ups and stickers all around Paris, his classic imagery now adorns the city's streets.

The Street Museum of Art presents a unique and innovative approach to experiencing art by extending beyond the physicality of a museum or gallery. By combining the strategic curation and organization of a museum with the guerilla techniques of a street artist, SMoA is the first public art program of its kind.

On August 23rd, Station 16 Gallery and M0851 have joined forces to present a new artistic endeavour. The artist, Zilon, has recently applied his drawings and designs to the leather products of M0851. The event will be the first chance to view and purchase the new collection.

When viewing the work of Eric Clement, there are waves of nostalgia and a strong sense of familiarity; however, the final product is a completely unique creation. An infusion of comic books, graffiti, childhood stock characters, and brand imagery permeates his work, and through a variety of mediums and installations, Clement contributes an unparalleled element to the Montreal art scene.

Sobek and Kcis, twins who form the artist duo, use a combination of the figurative and abstract to create dramatic street art that is quickly gaining an international following.

This years Mural Festival (2nd edition!) in Montreal brought in a variety of talent from all over the world. This year Station16 Gallery chose to highlight one of the festivals international artists KASHINK, with the opening of her first Montreal solo exhibit ; "Ornementations Masculines".

This week we have a special blog interview with Parisian artist Le Diamantaire. Sabrina Desjardins, our newest Station16 intern, lead the interview on our behalf! Please note that this interview is only in french, with an english version to follow later this month.

Le Diamantaire est un artiste français à surveiller lors du festival MURAL, qui se déroulera de 12 au 15 juin prochains. Il s’agit de sa première présence dans un festival au Canada. L’artiste travaille avec des miroirs, qu’il réutilise en les moulant dans une forme de diamant. Le Diamantaire œuvre dans la sphère de l’installation, en disposant ses miroirs moulés un peu partout sur son passage. 

Using images of Hollywood icons and fashion models, the New York based artist DAIN juxtaposes celebrity icons, creating hybrids that dissociate the familiar to create something surreal.  Coupling male and female identity, playing with proportions and contexts, DAIN unified characters, which simultaneously complements and detracts from the whole. In his correlated images, our idealizations of these famous personalities become empty.  This month, Leanna Valente, author of Art & Fashion, was given the opportunity to interview the artist.

Station 16 and Instagrafite have come together to produce the fun and creative t-shirts, with prints designed by a few of the street art community’s very best. With such a diverse group of artists coming together for this project, Station 16 and Instagrafite . Here we’ve taken a closer look at each artists’ unique style, and a bit of background information.

You all know the work of 123 Klan, but for those of you that don't... you may find it strangely familiar. It may be because of their significant character and letter style, but more likely it's due to the fact that they are one of the most contracted graphic designers in the urban scene. With clients like Nike, Pepsi, MTV and Vans, it's no wonder their imagery may seem familiar...   

Station 16 Gallery has been a longtime supporter of Enzo & Nio, printing Magritte (Ceci nest pas use bombe) back in 2012. We’ve since presented their Idols and launched a tremendously successful Alarm Pull edition variant for Fountain Art Fair. Today, we would like to introduce you to Magda Coccinella, the person behind the Brooklyn duo’s social media...

Yoav Litvin is a psychologist, scientist, writer and photographer living in New York City. Yoav has recently come out with a beautiful book on the contemporary street art and graffiti movement in NYC titled Outdoor Gallery – New York City, published by Gingko Press. His book features several of the artists showcased by Station 16 Gallery, such as Dain, Elle Deadsex, Enzo & Nio, Gilf! and LNY.

On March 20th at 6pm, Station 16 Gallery invites you to celebrate EN MASSE's 5th anniversary with the opening of FULL CIRCLE, presenting a new body of work including paintings, prints and sculpture. Special to this exhibit is the release of our largest print to date! This limited edition run of 16 silkscreen prints, will have it's centre filled by hand from an EnMasse artist! Version française à suivre.

The Parisian street art scene is constantly in motion. Paris is definitely in the top ten list of cities to visit in order to see street art against a backdrop of age old architecture. Street artists are constantly emerging in this bustling city, and with it, so are their techniques and crafts for standing out amongst the rest. One specific gem (pun-intended) that caught our eye this year, is the work of Le Diamantaire, a French artist working primarily with discarded mirrors.

On Wednesday morning, Station16 was featured on Breakfast Television Montreal. Adam and Emily, Station16's gallery directors, got up at the crack of dawn to talk about some of the local talent featured at the gallery, along with a live silkscreen demo. We are happy to announce that a silkscreen workshop will be offered at our gallery in the month of April!
